Organic Garden + Student Gardeners + Parent Volunteers = Fantastic Lunch

Posted June 4, 2010

On Thursday, June 3rd the 3rd graders, their teachers and their parents participated in what was very much an early Thanksgiving feast as they presented a lunch made from their labor of love. Anyone who regularly ascends the driveway to the upper campus will notice on the right-hand side, a beautiful terraced garden that acts as a classroom for life science, ecology /sustainability, and even teamwork and responsibility. For the last few years, the elementary school has, under the direction of Mme Deschamps, conscientiously cared for this garden, learning the many lessons that come with it. Each year, it yields a bounty of the most incredible produce.

And, as is becoming the tradition, parents harvest the vegetables and create wonderful dishes for a sumptuous lunch. This year's lunch featured salads, quiches, pasta dishes, potato dishes, and many other mouth-watering and healthy offerings.

Mme Cole, Head of the Elementary School, expressed appreciation for both the program and the wonderful volunteer parents who so enthusiastically participated in the creation of this traditional feast. It is a certainty that this program and its many lessons will continue for years to come. Bravo Elementary School!
